Going Green With Your Printer

eco-friendly printer

With the function of producing tangible copies of your documents and files digitally stored in your computers and mobile devices, printers are considered to be one of the most important innovations designed to support our computers. However though, as much as it can help one, printers can also have some drawbacks. One of this is the environmental hazards or carbon footprints. These printers emit in our atmosphere. Of course, this is something inevitable, the same as it is with the use of other electronic machines, but that doesn’t mean you can’t do something about it.

Going green with your printer isn’t impossible as you think it may seem. Here are some tips on how you can implement the “green theme” for your printer:

Energy-Star Qualified Printers

Energy-Star qualified products are proven and tested to use less energy, save money and contribute to protecting the environment. Energy Star is a program started by S. Environmental Protection Agency and the U.S. Department of Energy to help consumers save money and help the environment through creating a list of energy efficient products and practices. Energy-Star also provides a list of printers and multifunction peripherals that have passed their qualifications. It is also prudent when buying a printer to look at its specification, most Energy-Star qualified printer have this stated in their specifications.

Eco-Highlights or Eco-Features

Some printers feature eco-highlights or environment-friendly setups to help you save on your electricity and your printer consumables while helping the environment. One of the famous eco-features includes the Toner Saving Mode/Eco-Mode, which enables its users to set up their printer so it will only use a minimal amount of ink or toner every time it prints. Another one is the auto-duplex mode in which your printer prints on both sides of the pages, saving the use paper and energy.

Refurbished Printers

Refurbished printers are refreshed units which underwent intent cleaning, inspecting and major repairing processes. Refurbished multifunction printers or refreshed unit printers embrace the concept of recycling and the consequences of merely dumping electronics waste in our landfills thus contributing to the welfare of our environment, and reducing the chemical waste ending up in our landfills when obsolete printers are thrown.

Use of Remanufactured Printer Cartridges

Remanufactured printer cartridges like refurbished printers are recycled printer consumables that are inspected, clean and refilled with new toner or ink to be able to use again. These are often called recycled cartridges or eco-friendly printer cartridges, and cost lower than the average printer cartridges, letting printer users save more on their printing expenses.
