GLOSSARY OF TERMS
ACCESSORIES & COPIER/FAX/PRINTER TERMINOLOGY
MFP:
MFP’S is an acronym for Multi-Functional Product. Other names for this can be all-in-one, mutli-functional’s, Workcentre’s. These devices are any combination of copier, fax, printer, or scanning. The copier based MFP’s are the larger, more commercial type, while the fax/printer based MFP’s are more of the desktop/lower volume types.
With so many different needs of end-users, there is a large mix of these MFP’s, with some overlapping one area.
SOHO - Small Office, Home Office Device
MFC -Multi-Function Center
SOPM - Scan Once, Print Many. This is a standard feature of the current generation of copiers, in which originals are first scanned, then printed (therefore, a copy). Even though you entered to copy more than 1 (maybe 10 or 50), the original is only scanned once.
ADF - Automatic Document Feeder (for originals)
DADF - Reversing Automatic Document Feeder (for originals)
LCT - Large Capacity Tray
High Capacity Feeder - Same as LCT
Tandem Trays
Bypass - tray used for multi-purpose media, from letter, legal, cardstock, labels, etc.
Media - source to be printed on. This could be the paper, labels, etc.
Duplex - 2-sided process. This is required both for ADF and machine to do a fully automatic 2-sided copy/print
