A3
Maximum paper through-put of 11X17 and in some cases 12X18

A4
Maximum paper through-put of 8.5 X14

ACM
Application Communication Module

ADF
Automatic Document Feeder (for originals)

ADF
A device used for automatically feeding multiple pages into a multifunction device.

AI
A propriety file format developed by Adobe for representing single-page vector based drawings in either the EPS or PDF formats

BMP
Windows Bitmap Format - An image file format used to store bitmap digital images

BYPASS
A tray used for multipurpose media, from letter, legal, cardstock, labels, etc.

Clicks
Pages produced on an output device.

CMYK
The process of generating a color image by absorbing light and reflecting whats left.

Collate
The means by which original sets are separated from each other for easy identification.

Color Calibration
Usually an electrical process of setting the image quality to a known standard such as a test sheet.

Copy Plan
A form of financing the acquisition of a photocopier that includes the machine rental plus the copy charge to arrive at a net cost per copy (click charge).

Coverage
A term used to describe how much information (toner usage)

CPC
Cost Per Copy- Cost calculated based on supplies for black and white or color output

CPM
Copies per Minute - Maximum Speed that an output device is capable of delivering paper to the output

CPP
Cost Per Page- Page cost calculated for a printed document or a copy from the document feeder or glass.

DADF/RADF
Reversing Automatic Document Feeder (for originals)

DN
2 Sided Copy-Print / Network

DSC
Document Structuring Convention- A set of standards for post script

DSK
Data Security Kit - Data Security Kit for Sharp MX models

DSPF
An automatic document feeder capable of reading both sides of an original in a single pass

DUPLEX
Two Sided Printing / Copying.

Duty Cycle
A term that refers to the amount of work that can be expected from a particular device .

EAM
External Accounting Module - Transfers data from one computer to another over the Internet or through a network.

ECM
Enterprise Content Management - Strategies , methods and tools used to capture, manage, store , preserver , and deliver content and documents.

EDM
Electronic Document Management - The process of storing and retrieving a document , both , scanned and images and electronic files.

EFI
Electronic for Imaging- Using computer and/or specialized hardware and software to capture,store and process flat information.

EMS
Enterprise Management System - Applications to support business Process

EPS
Encapsulated Postscript- A DSC - conforming Postscript

Ethernet    
A type of physical network connection using wires.

Office Finisher

FAT
File allocation Table - A computer file system architecture now widely used on most computer systems and most memory cards such as those used with digital cameras.

FCOT
First Copy Output Time, usually a better Measure of speed/productivity rather than PPC/CPM

FTP
A protocol or set of instructions for how a file is transferred on a network from Point A to Point B

GIF
Graphics Interchange Format - Format that supports up to 8 Bits per pixel.

GUI
Graphical User Interface - offers graphical icons and visual indicators as opposed to text-based interfaces.

HCF
Capacity Feeder - Same as LCT Tandem Trays

HDD
Hard Disk Drive - Spooling or copying print jobs from the network.

ImageSEND
Sharp's portal to document distribution available on the AR M280/350/450 series enabling scanning and sending a document to six different destinations

IP/MAC
Internet Protocol/Media Access Control

IPM
Images per Minute

Job Memory
Feature allowing you to program a sequence of instructions needed to execute a complicated copying job,

LCT
Large Capacity Tray

MEDIA
A source to be printed on. This could be the paper, labels, etc.

MFC
Multifunction Center, also another Acronym for MFP

MFP
Multifunctional Product. These devices are any combination of copier, fax, printer, or scanning.

N
Suffix to a Model, denotes Network Enabled Feature

NIC
Network Interface Card. The most common standard is Ethernet, which comes in two main options: 10BaseT and the newer and faster 100BaseT.

OCR
Optical Character Recognition- Software designed to translate text images into machine editable text.

OCT
OFF set Catch Tray

PAU
Printer Administration Utility- a network designed to speed up the installation and configurations of all connected Sharp Devices.

PPM/CPM
Page Per Minute / Copies Per Minute

Simplex
One Sided Printing /Copying.

SOHO
Small Office, Home Office Device

SOPM
Scan Once, Print Many. SOPM is relative to the Analog days when each multiple copying required scanning of the original every time

Scan to Email

STF
Scan to Fax

STN
Scan to Network

STU
Scan to USB

X
Usually near top of the line suffix, usually denotes Scan, Fax, and often, extra paper input trays

POP3
Post Office Protocol - Application to retrieve email from a remote server over a TCP/IP connection

R.E.D.
Remote Email Diagnostic - Enable key Operators,IT Managers and Sharp Authorized Service Providers.

Recirculation Automatic Document Feeder

Red Green Blue

RIP
Raster Image Processor - A device responsible for taking the output of the print driver and turining it into raster (dot) Information
